DETROIT (WXYZ) — A Detroit food truck owner is stepping up to adopt a family who lost everything after flames spread from an arson fire next door. They are making sure that a single mother and her three kids can still have a Christmas to remember.
“It means the world to know someone cares,” says Alexis Fernandez, who was one of the children left homeless. His two younger siblings, he and his mother have been staying with friends in the meantime.
It was back on Nov. 20 that arsonists set fire to the vacant house next door in Southwest Detroit.
“We saw what happened and decided to buy some gifts and make dinner for the family,” says Bianca Pejuan, owner of Hibachi Me 313 food truck. “I feel great. I love to give back to the community and our food truck is family-based.”
A GoFundMe page is also set up to assist the family, in paying for the expense of finding a new home.
