It's no secret that STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, art and math) is essential when it comes to growing future innovators.

A lot of companies are investing in programs to encourage young students to explore the possibilities in these fields and Ford Motor Company is no exception.

Ford STEAM Experience Brand Manager Tracy Magee stopped by Broadcast House this morning to talk about the automaker's commitment to educational initiatives.

She says Ford has been active in STEAM education for about 30 years. In the last 5 years, the company has invested $63 million in a number of programs.

"STEAM education is a very important topic for Ford and many other companies given our need for problem solvers and future engineers and technical careers," said Magee.

The company most recently partnered with Kode With Klossy to help expand coding camps for young women across the country.

Kode With Klossy is an organization -- founded by supermodel Karlie Kloss -- that hosts free two-week programs to help motivate girls to pursue careers in STEAM-related fields.

The investment from Ford, Magee says, will help the organization expand from three camps to 15, giving more students the opportunity to participate.

"We're doing a Detroit-based camp and the applications are open now until the end of April," said Magee.

She says Ford created a platform called STEAM Experience about a year ago to help unify all of the automaker's ongoing efforts.

"There's...this magic window for, especially girls, but all children to really see what they are going to be able to do and we want to be there to have the STEM education part of that."
