Former EMT killed in tragic accident on I-94

(WXYZ) — The victim in a deadly series of accidents on I-94 and Stone School Road has been identity by family members.

Matt Griebe, 36, is described as a selfless man with a heart of gold.

The Warren man's family says he was traveling home after teaching a CPR class in Ann Arbor on Friday around 10 p.m.

Jim Griebe, Matt's stepfather said, his vehicle hydroplaned on a pool of water and hit another vehicle that lost control.

"The [police] said Matt went to the first driver and asked if she was ok," Jim said. "The third car struck him."

While Matt was out of his vehicle his was struck by another vehicle and landed in a nearby ditch. His family said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Matt was an avid and competitive bowler who was also raising his ex-girlfriend's daughter who has special needs.
