Way expensive! That's how one mom described prom and many parents would probably agree with her, especially if they have a teen daughter. Once you add up the price of the dress, shoes, jewelry, a purse, along with hair, nails and makeup - you're easily looking at spending hundreds of dollars.

The Prom Closet Project wants to cut that bill down by offering free prom dresses, jewelry and shoes. “It’s extremely expensive if you look at any of these tags, we’re looking at $150 on up," says Moe Lietz, Sparkle Network. "We want them to not worry about a thing."

Sparkle Network is a nonprofit that puts on this prom event every year. The goal is to cut the overall cost of prom. The Prom Closet Project is on a tour this year visiting several locations so teen girls can find a prom dress. One of the stops was to Celtic Sisters Candles & Candies in New Baltimore. The sisters who own the shop were happy to be a part of the mission.

"I was very fortunate in being able to buy my daughters' dresses for prom and I can’t imagine being a mother and knowing that your daughter wants to go to prom and not being able to afford a dress for her,” says Maureen Logsdon, co-owner of the store.

The prom dress event in on tour through May 1.

Tour stops:

South Rockwood: April 16 at Children with Hair Loss main office
St. Clair Shores: May 1 at Kitty Deluxe
An appointment is needed for all locations. To set up an appointment, email sparkle.network3@gmail.com. You can also find more information here.
