We are expected to learn more today about the future of the former Michigan State Fairgrounds in Detroit.

Hundreds of people will tell you it's more than a vacant lot on 8 Mile. Thousands of families have years of memories from the Michigan State Fair.

The very last fair here was held in 2009, leaving behind empty, abandoned structures.

It's now been more than a year since we've heard any news about this site and today that will change.

For years, there has been talk about what to do with more than 150 acres of neglected land that sits in a high traffic area.

In 2012, the State Fairgrounds Development Coalition was created to plan the next step here.
Then, Magic Johnson's investment group got involved with other developers, and Johnson bought the property.
Their plan will soon be released to the public.

A community meeting will happen from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Northwest Activities Center, that's on Meyers Road near the Lodge and 6 Mile.

Representatives from the development team, planning and design teams along with the city will all be on hand.
