Starting Oct. 3, Garfield Road at M-59 in Macomb County will be closed for 10 days, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The closure is part of ongoing work on M-59. M-59 will remain open while all through-traffic on Garfield Road will be diverted.

Drivers must follow detours -- 21 Mile Road or 19 Mile Road to Hayes Road -- and should not use private property to avoid construction closure sites.

The project includes improving drainage, installing sidewalks and upgrading ramps to be complaint with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Garfield Road is expected to reopen Saturday, Oct. 13.
