Gas prices fall dramatically in metro Detroit after weeks of increases

After weeks of seeing gas prices on the rise due to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the price at the pump has finally fallen in metro Detroit and across the country.

According to GasBuddy.com, gas prices in Detroit fell 11.6 cents per gallon in the past week with the average now at $2.51 per gallon.

That compares to the national average that fell 4.7 cents per gallon to $2.60 per gallon.

Prices are still 25.5 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago and 8.3 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

Ann Arbor is in the same average at $2.51 per gallon, down 18 cents from last week; Flint is at $2.49 per gallon, down 16.9 cents and Toledo at $2.40 per gallon, down 7.6 cents.

When comparing the price in metro Detroit to previous years, it was $2.26 in 2016, $2.29 in 2015, $3.45 in 2014, $3.48 in 2013 and $4.05 in 2012.
