Gas prices in metro Detroit have seen a dramatic rise that has them at their highest prices since 2014.

According to GasBuddy, prices in metro Detroit rose 13.6 cents per gallon over the past week with the average now at $2.64 per gallon.

That is right on par with the national average of $2.64 per gallon, which saw an increase of 23.8 cents per gallon.

Compared to this time last year, prices were 32 cents per gallon higher and 20.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

"Thanks to Harvey shutting down an extensive amount of refining capacity, the national average gasoline price saw its largest weekly jump since Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005 when the national average jumped 49 cents in a week. Every state has seen average gas prices rise, Texas saw shortages at hundreds of stations- its been one of the most challenging weeks faced in years," GasBuddy Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said. "Until Texas can recover from Harvey, gasoline prices will likely continue to remain elevated."

Other areas in metro Detroit are also up with Ann Arbor seeing a 11.4 cent rise to $2.65 a gallon, flint up 5.3 cents to $2.56 per gallon and Toledo up 24.4 cents to $2.54 per gallon.

Comparing this to previous years, it is the highest since 2014. Last year prices were $2.32 per gallon, $2.30 per gallon in 2015, $3.54 per gallon in 2014, $3.64 per gallon in 2013 and $4.09 per gallon in 2012.
