The number of layoffs at GM's Delta Twp. Assembly plant is significantly lower than earlier reports back in March.

General Motors now reports there will be 600 layoffs instead of the 1,100 previously announced.

The plant will shut its doors on Friday, May 12 in preparation of the launch of the new Enclave and Traverse.

Employees affected by the layoffs will not return to work when the plant reopens in June.

The company previously reported that the third shift at its Lansing Delta Township plant would be eliminated.

The plant is set to launch production of the Chevrolet Traverse and the Buick Enclave.

The GMC Acadia is being built on a smaller platform. Production of that vehicle moved to a Spring Hill, Tenn., plant last summer.
