Genesee County reports first case of Legionnaires' disease in 2016, 65th case of year in Michigan

The Genesee County Health Department and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services say they have confirmed the first case of Legionnaires' disease in that county this year.

The patient is currently hospitalized.

While they are still working to determine the source of that individual's exposure, officials say there is no indication that the individual was exposed within the city of Flint.

While this is the first case this year, officials say there are usually between nine to 11 cases in Genesee County a year. Cases spiked in 2014-2015, when there were 91 reported cases in the county.

To date, officials say there have been 65 cases of Legionnaires' in Michigan this year.
