The Michigan Department of Transportation says one local lane of southbound I-75 will open on Friday morning from I-96 to Springwells in Detroit.

On top of that, the Springwells St. ramp will reopen as well as the Schaefer Highway ramp to southbound I-75 will open. It's expected to happen at 9 a.m. on Friday.

While that portion of the highway will open, southbound I-75 will remain closed for work on the Rouge River project, but it's expected to be complete by the end of the year.

As for the overall project status of the I-75 project, MDOT says work on the Rouge River Bridge is complete, as is the reconstruction of the Goddard Rd. bridges. Work on 11 Downriver bridges is expected to be complete by early December, depending on the weather, and concrete replacement and sewer work between Clark Ave. and Springwells St. in Southwest Detroit is expected to be finished by the end of the year or early 2019 depending on weather.

The detours continue for drivers on westbound I-96 to southbound I-275 and then back to southbound I-75.

MDOT says backups are still expected when one lane is reopened from I-96 to Springwells.

The southbound I-75 service drive will have two lanes open to access the Springwells St. entrance ramp, and drivers on Fort St. can access Springwells to re-enter I-75.
