There's a new Girl Scout cookie flavor set to join the ranks of Thin Mints, Samoas and Trefoils: New S'mores cookies will be sold by area Girl Scouts next year.

The Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan made the announcement today, August 10, which they say is "National S’Mores Day."

On the website of the company that bakes them, the new S'mores Girl Scout cookies are described as, "Crunchy graham sandwich cookies with creamy chocolate and marshmallowy filling."

Local Girl Scouts will begin taking orders for the new cookies on December 19, 2016. They will be available as part of the 2017 Girl Scout cookie lineup.

These new cookies could cost more than traditional Girl Scout cookies. "This newly introduced cookie is the first of its kind for Girl Scouts and like other similar consumer products the cookie could be priced higher than other Girl Scout Cookies, reflecting the cost of production," said an announcement from the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan.

Each 2-cookie serving of S'mores cookies is 150 calories. There will be 16 cookies in each box.

The cookies contain, "No artificial flavors or colors, high fructose corn syrup, or hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils," a press release says.
