The owners of the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers are teaming up to bring Major League Soccer to the Motor City.

Detroit's Ford Field has seen its share of mixed use. Of course, it's home to the Lions, but the venue also hosted NCAA March Madness basketball, wrestling, concerts and even bridal shows.

Adding soccer here is the next great possibility.

Today Dan Gilbert and Tom Gores are heading to New York to make their formal pitch to bring a an MLS team to Detroit.

MLS is expanding the league with two teams and Detroit is a finalist among four cities, narrowed down from 12 original cities who made bids back in January.

Detroit is bidding to pay a $150-million fee to join the league in 2020.

The other three cities competing are Nashville, Cincinnati and Sacramento. The two winning cities will be announced by the end of the year.
