WASHINGTON (WXYZ) — Michigan Gov.-elect Gretchen Whitmer met with President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday afternoon. Whitmer was among other governors-elect to meet with Trump and other national leaders.

During the meeting, Whitmer introduced herself to Trump, saying she looked forward to working with his administration.

Trump then congratulated her on her victory and said they would have a good working relationship.

"This is an opportunity to make sure Michigan has a voice at the table to find common ground on the issues that will be most important to our state moving forward," Whitmer's press secretary said at the time of the invitation

Those issues include affordable health care, protecting the Great Lakes and improving our infrastructure.

Trump won Michigan during the 2016 election, becoming the first Republican to do so since President George H.W. Bush in 1988.

Whitmer, along with Attorney General-elect Dana Nessell and Secretary of State-elect Jocelyn Benson, flipped three of the top Michigan offices from Republican to Democrat in the 2018 election. She defeated current Attorney General Bill Schuette in the race for Michigan governor.
