Michigan Governor-elect Gretchen Whitmer will meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, a White House official tells 7 Action News.

According to the official, Whitmer and other governors-elect from across the country were invited to meet with Trump as part of a bipartisan group.

"This is an opportunity to make sure Michigan has a voice at the table to find common ground on the issues that will be most important to our state moving forward," Whitmer's press secretary said.

Those issues include affordable health care, protecting the Great Lakes and improving our infrastructure.

Trump won Michigan during the 2016 election, becoming the first Republican to do so since President George H.W. Bush in 1988.

Whitmer, along with Attorney General-elect Dana Nessell and Secretary of State-elect Jocelyn Benson, flipped three of the top Michigan offices from Republican to Democrat in the 2018 election. She defeated current Attorney General Bill Schuette in the race for Michigan governor.
