(WXYZ) — President Trump has announced a short-term proposal to reopen the government and end the current shutdown, now in Day 35.

Trump says he will sign a 3-week deal to reopen the government until Feb. 15 and arrange for federal employees to receive "all their back pay very quickly or as soon as possible."

Today is the second time federal workers affected by the shutdown did not receive paychecks.

Government leaders said furloughed federal workers will get back pay once the shutdown ends. Many have said they live paycheck to paycheck and the lack of regular pay is drastically affecting their livelihoods.

Earlier today, airports in New York, Newark and Philadelphia reported delays due to air traffic controller shortages. Workers not receiving paychecks are calling in sick.
