DETROIT (WXYZ) — One day, Dre dreams of getting to know a family who will adopt him out of foster care.

“I’m really goofy at times,” he said, smiling.

If you give this 16-year-old a basketball, you’ll watch him light up.

“I love basketball, I love to run. I like being active,” he said.

“My favorite subject in school is math and gym. I get to be whoever I want in gym. Basically, shoot, run, football. I just started doing round-offs,” said Dre.

He’s also really into music and lyrics that can help others.

“When I grow up, I want to be a producer of like hip hop, write basically music that can help people, like, to relate to people my life -- what I went through -- to relate to what they’re going through so they don’t do nothing they shouldn’t be doing,” he explained.

He also enjoys dancing and singing.

Dre said he’s really good with kids so he’d be happy to join a family with siblings. He also has a little brother he enjoys spending time with.

“I would like a family, like a mom and a dad. I want them to, like, to get to know me first,” said Dre.

“I just want them to understand me and be there for me and not for somebody else,” he added.
