DETROIT (WXYZ) — Squaring off in a debate in school about historic events would probably put a big smile on Jacob’s face. But being adopted would top that…big time!

The 16-year-old who’s in foster care is hoping a family will adopt him soon.

“I can be outgoing once I get to know a person. I can be athletic at certain times. I have an interesting sense of humor,” he said with a smile.

“History is awesome. Then there’s science,” he said when asked about school.

“I like debating a lot. It’s something I’m pretty good at, too,” he added.

He aims to go to college and then become a police officer, a veterinary technician, or a teacher when he grows up.

“Teaching sounds like fun. Plus, I want to share my knowledge for history with some kids who might not have learned from a text book,” he said.

He’s a big dog lover, a fan of mac ‘n’ cheese, and likes to draw.

“I can draw pretty well. The thing about drawing is it’s relaxing. When you have an idea and you look at it, you’re like, yeah! That’s my idea,” he said proudly.

What does adoption mean to him?

“It’s just someone -- a kid -- finding a home…it has the same qualities as a birth home,” he explained.

He would be happy with two parents or in a single parent home. He’s also open to having siblings.
