There are plenty of things to see in Grosse Ile Township, but one thing you won’t really see is crime. Police Chief Joe Porcarelli says the city is so safe because of the people that live there but also because of geography and technology.

Grosse Ile sits on an island so you have to cross this bridge to get there. A lot of criminals don’t take that chance possibly because of the technology. Both bridges are equipped with a license plate recognition system that snaps a photo of every vehicle driving onto the island.

"It only sees the plate itself and the back of the vehicle and it runs it through the system for wanted people, stolen cars, stolen plates amber alerts anything like that,” says Chief Porcarelli.

“Since I’ve been over here I haven’t heard of a violent crime, absolutely not,” says resident Rob Sawyer.
