Guilty plea in stolen Detroit police accident reports case

FLINT, Mich. (WXYZ) — A Florida man is facing five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to impede the lawful function of the Internal Revenue Service and conspiring to steal from an organization receiving federal funds.

Court documents allege that from January 2013 through December 2017 Scott Jawetz and his co-defendants used the Blue Horseshoe Consulting company to obtain police reports that contained information about automobile crash victims. Those reports were stolen from the Detroit Police Department.

Jawetz and his co-conspirators then alleged used to stolen information to solicit the victims for medical and chiropractic services and then under reported the gross receipts they received from Blue Horseshoe's business operations, as well as the total wages Blue Horseshoe paid to their employees.

Jawetz faces five years in prison and $250,000 in fines on each of the two conspiracy counts, as well as a period of supervised release, restitution, and monetary penalties.
