REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — 2020 was a record year for gun sales but they shot up late last week after the attack on the U. S. Capitol.

Bill Kucyk own Action Impact on West 8 Mile Road in Redford Township. He says people have been lined up out the door since that attack happened as people want to stay safe.

His display cases have gaps where handguns and long guns were on display. There’s been a shortage of guns and ammunition because of COVID driving reduced raw materials and overall production.

Many stores are not selling ammunition.

Kucyk says if you buy a gun at this store you will get ammo too saying, “I have enough ammunition to sell with my guns. I’ve made sure of that because that would be like buying a car and not getting gas.”

Mary Pendleton was shooting on the gun range at the store today for only the second time.

She’s buying a gun for the first time telling 7 Action News, “Just to stay safe honestly. Especially in times like this everybody is being a little reckless."

She was being helped by Eric Green a gun safety instructor who says, adults and children, that's the most important things to learn.

Green says, “Make sure your kids understand the meaning of a weapon. And you also need to know and be sure you know how to handle your weapon.”

You must be 21 to buy a handgun and 18 to buy a long gun. A pistol needs to be registered with your local police department.

If you want a concealed pistol license, you must take a course that is also held at Action Impact.
