Authorities say an inmate who took a gun from a deputy and killed two bailiffs during an escape attempt at a southwestern Michigan courthouse was facing possible life in prison for rape and kidnapping charges involving a 17-year-old girl.

The Berrien County prosecutor's office says Wednesday that 44-year-old Larry Darnell Gordon was accused of holding the teen against her will for two weeks and giving her methamphetamines in exchange for sex. The teen also was physically assaulted.

Officers found the girl in April in a shed at Gordon's Coloma Township home. They were seeking him on an earlier misdemeanor domestic violence warrant.

Gordon fled from the shed when officers arrived. He was arrested several streets away. He was later charged with criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, assault and drug possession.
