A Hazel Park police is accused of being on the other side of the law.

This after accusations of Detective Sean Boucher embezzling $85,000 from the police department.

He has now resigned.

Hazel Park Police Chief Martin Barner said, "We all feel betrayed."

Detective Boucher is accused of embezzling money from the non-drug forfeiture account, a department he was in charge of.

The chief says it may have started as far back as January 2012. He says his suspicions were confirmed Monday the 11th.

That's when the 18-year veteran was suspended without pay.

Chief Barner is shocked by the allegations and says Boucher was a very trustworthy detective.

"I've known him his whole career. I've been here over 23 years. He was here just 18 years. I've actually watched him grow as a man and as an officer."

By Friday, Boucher had resigned, sparking speculations of him trying to hold on to his pension. Chief Barner says police officer or not, he holds all people accountable for their actions.

"We are all feeling that pain of the deceit and betrayal."

Hazel Park Police have handed over their information to Michigan state police who are now investigating.

So far, no charges have been filed.
