The Midterm Elections brought about a lot of change across Michigan and now Michiganders will have a new governor, several new representatives and new laws going into effect.

LIVE ELECTION RESULTS HERE

Democrat Gretchen Whitmer was elected the next governor of Michigan, edging out Republican Attorney General Bill Schuette.

After winning the election, Whitmer said she plans to work with Gov. Rick Snyder for a smooth transition.

We're still waiting on results for both the Attorney General and Secretary of State race. With 72 percent reporting as of 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Democrat Dana Nessel led Republican 48.3 percent to 46.9 percent in the AG race while Democrat Jocelyn Benson led Republican Mary Treder Lang 52 percent to 44.8 percent in the SOS race.

Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow was also re-elected to her fourth term representing Michigan in the U.S. Senate. She faced a tough challenger from Republican businessman John James, with Stabenow getting just over 50 percent of the vote.

A Republican seat in parts of Wayne and Oakland counties also flipped from Republican to Democrat. Democrat Haley Stevensbeat out Republican Lena Epstein in Michigan's 11th Congressional District to replace Dave Trott, who is giving up his seat at the end of the term.

Just before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Republican incumbent Mike Bishop conceded the race for Michigan's 8th Congressional district to Democrat Elissa Slotkin.

Stevens was one of many Democrats who took over Republican seats, which helped Democrats regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives. Republicans did keep control of the U.S. Senate.

In other U.S. House races, Democrat Debbie Dingell kept her seat while Rashida Tlaib became one of the first Muslim Americans to serve in Congress.

All three proposals in Michigan passed by double-digit margins. Proposal 1 legalized recreational marijuana; Proposal 2 created an independent redistricting commission and Proposal 3 allowed easier access to voting for Michiganders.

Democrat Jocelyn Benson won the Michigan Secretary of State race, beating out Mary Treder Lang. Benson has now become the state's first Democratic secretary in 24 years.
