(WXYZ) — As we prepare for the rough weather coming our way, parents are also preparing for the not-so-pleasant conditions on Halloween night.
It's going to be a mixture of rain, wind and possibly some snow and parents are staying on top of safety.
Conditions will be cold and wet with gusty winds. It'll be all around nasty weather.
It's important if you plan on trick or treating Thursday, to be prepared and stay safe.
Halloween is the time of year kids hit the streets going door to door collecting as much candy as humanly possible.
"We’re definitely going check our candy, we take our candy to the local police station," one local parent said.
Halloween can also be one of the most dangerous days for children. According to the national safety council, children are twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than any other day of the year.
Which is why safety should be a top priority. If you've walking door to door, be alert. Put the phone away and watch for oncoming vehicles. Never dart into the street without stopping first and looking both ways. Even wear something that's reflective.
If you're driving, slow down and be extra alert in residential areas. Also, put your phone away and pay extra attention for kids as you enter or exit your driveway.
DTE is reminding people to be extra cautious. With nasty weather expected, the electric company wants everyone to be alert for potential downed power lines and safety hazards.
Overall people seemed to have a well thought out plan for a safe Halloween night.
