The National Insurance Crime Bureau released a report outlining the top 10 most stolen vehicles in the United States in 2016.
Help Eliminate Auto Thefts, Michigan’s statewide auto theft prevention tip line, reminds auto owners – regardless of the vehicle – to take necessary precautions to keep vehicles safe.
Numbers from 2016 indicate that two Honda models account for 42 percent of all top 10 vehicle thefts, while the other eight vehicles vary by model and year. The annual NICB report is comprised of information submitted by law enforcement to the National Crime Information Center. The report analyzes this data to determine the make, model and year of the most stolen vehicles.
“Advances in technology continue to make auto theft increasingly difficult for thieves,” said Mark Wagenshutz, executive director for H.E.A.T. “At the same time, vehicle owners, especially those with older models, should always exercise safety precautions to keep themselves and their vehicles safe.”

3. Ford Pickup, 2006
4. Chevrolet Pickup, 2004
5. Toyota Camry, 2016
6. Nissan Altima, 2015
7. Dodge Pickup, 2001
8. Toyota Corolla, 2015
9. Chevrolet Impala, 2008
10. Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee, 2000
To ensure vehicle safety, consumers should take necessary steps, including locking the car, taking the keys, installing vehicle tracking devices or having and using a visible or audible warning device.
