Financial aid in the millions could be coming to the Detroit Public School district--and this morning we are learning it could happen soon.

Lawmakers in Lansing have managed to move a bill for a temporary financial bailout for DPS out of a state House committee for consideration.

The district is expected to run out of money in 3 weeks. The deadline given to lawmakers by DPS transition manager Judge Steven Rhodes is April 8.

The move of the proposed temporary financial bailout out of a state House committee and to the House floor means one thing: the House could take up the proposal and pass the supplemental aid package today.

Just the talk of the possibility of temporary funding to keep the district running is welcome news for parents, students, teachers and staff.

The proposed temporary bailout calls for a $48.7 million lifeline for DPS and could keep the district running through June.
