WESTLAND, Mich. (WXYZ) — It's time to get messy!

Nankin Mills Park in Westland will turn into a giant mud pit on July 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the 32nd annual Mud Day event. Children 12 years and younger will have the chance to play while participating in games and relay races at the free event.

According to a release, the children will be separated into three age groups: ages 4 and younger, 5-7 and ages 8-12 years old. Children will play games like Mud Limbo, wheelbarrow races and have a chance to be crowned King or Queen Mud.

This year will mark the centennial anniversary of Wayne County Parks and Mud Day participants will have the chance to win commemorative anniversary prizes as well.

The Westland Fire department will be on hand to rinse the children off after the event. Parents are encouraged to have the children wear old clothing or a bathing suit and bring a towel.
