MT. CLEMENS, Mich. (WXYZ) — An inmate at the Macomb County Jail assaulted a deputy while he was in holding at the circuit court building awaiting a hearing with a judge about several outstanding bench warrants, a press release states.

Paul Frost, 34, of Warren, was previously arrested for armed robbery. And on Aug. 23, he was transported to the Macomb County Circuit Court by Macomb County deputies to go before a judge for his outstanding bench warrants.

A release states that Frost was being held in a lock up facility with two other inmates on the third floor of the court house. When one of the inmates told a deputy that he was not feeling well, the deputy opened the lock up door to check on the inmate and was attacked by Frost.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, Frost had slipped out of his physical restraints and struck the deputy in the head with his chains.

Frost then left out of the lock up facility and began to swing the metal chains at the deputy. He then grabbed on to the deputy's holster in an attempt to disarm him, but was unsuccessful.

A court house employee sounded an emergency alarm and other deputies arrived in lock up to contain the situation. The deputies were able to take Frost to a transport unit without him resisting further. Frost was then returned to the Macomb County Jail.

The deputy attacked has been treated for his injuries and released. According to the sheriff's office, the injuries to Frost's face were not from the assault. He arrived at the Macomb County Jail with those bruises.

Now Frost is charged with five criminal counts including assault with a dangerous weapon, assault of a prison employee, assaulting, resisting and obstructing causing injury to a police officer and attempted to disarm a peace officer.

He was given a $50,000 bond and will return in court on Sept. 9.
