Jobs: Amazon begins hiring for Livonia center; 1,000 positions promised

Amazon has started posting jobs for its new fulfillment center in Livonia.

The $90 million center is expected to open in October, and when it was announced, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, said Amazon would be bringing 1,000 jobs to the area.

We’ve only found a handful of positions posted on Amazon Jobs.

Plant Manager: As a senior leader you may oversee upwards of 1,000+ salaried and hourly employees, in our fast-paced facilities that can exceed a million square feet. You will serve as the face of the organization to thousands of employees and the community where the center is located. This position offers unlimited career potential as we continue to grow our global footprint.

Sr. Staffing Coordinator: The Sr. Staffing Coordinator (SSC) performs a variety of staffing duties under the direction of the Staffing Manager or Staffing Specialist, including providing administrative support to the Seasonal Staffing Team in the recruiting and hiring process for seasonal Amazon associates

Staff Manager: The Staffing Manager plans, directs and leads all phases of successful operation for sourcing, screening, hiring and onboarding seasonal employees within local recruiting office(s). The Recruiting Manager also develops staff members so that everyone on the team is fully trained and utilized to the optimum level. 

Loss Prevention Manager: The Loss Prevention Manager – Fulfillment Centers (FC) leads the effort to efficiently and effectively provide security services and asset (lives, buildings, equipment, data, analysis & intellectual property) protection within the assigned location. The Loss Prevention Manager is a key member of the operations organization, working with the FC Operational team as well as cross functional teams throughout the organization. The position is site based. 

2 Site Safety Managers: The Site Safety Manager will lead a team of hourly safety team members: Safety Specialist, Safety Coordinators, Onsite first aid Associates. You will create and execute leadership development plans for your Safety Associates on the team. They will communicate safety team expectations and give frequent and appropriate feedback to their safety teams and ensure they are executing the core competencies of an Amazon safety professional. 

IT Support Engineer: Regular activities include network engineering and troubleshooting, project management, mentorship of Technical Support Technicians, data cabling, systems administration in a variety of software and hardware environments, telecom/PBX administration, root cause analysis in problem solving, and assistance in managing the daily activities of the department.

Area Manager – Military Veterans: As an Area Manager, you will have the opportunity to lead and develop your own team of Amazon Associates; one of your main focuses will be motivating, mentoring, and coaching your team. You will be responsible for engaging your team during a shift to maintain the highest levels of safety, quality, attendance performance and engagement are maintained. 

The official Amazon jobs site doesn't list any hourly distribution positions for the Livonia center.

Amazon says it offers competitive compensation packages including comprehensive healthcare benefits starting on Day 1, up to 20 weeks of paid parental leave and stock awards.

Fulfillment centers are facilities with highly automated pick, pack and ship processes to facilitate timely processing of merchant orders.

The Michigan Strategic Fund also approved a $7.5 million Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant that will help support Amazon's employee recruitment efforts.
