(WXYZ) — Federal judges have issued two opinions in a federal lawsuit filed against Warren Mayor Jim Fouts and the City of Warren.

Judge Gershwin Drain denied the city and Fouts' attempt to have the case thrown out of court.

Fouts is being sued by the city's former diversity coordinator, Gregory Murray, for alleged wrongful termination.

The lawsuit, brought by Gregory Murray, the former diversity coordinator for the city, claimed that Fouts "fostered a racially hostile environment." Murray claims he was fired for his efforts to address "racial injustice and civil rights" in the city, his attorney says.

Additionally, a federal court ordered Fouts and the city to turn over emails related to the case.

Fouts has previously said the allegations against him and the city are both "baseless and frivolous."
