We are learning more about the man who is expected to be one of the next leaders of Detroit Public Schools.

Retired U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes tells 7 Action News he believes he will be part of the district's next leadership team.

He is the judge who oversaw the bankruptcy of Detroit. He has been working as a consultant for the state on how to handle the district's severe debt.

"Judge Rhodes has been a consultant for the administration and in recent months has been working on the Detroit Public Schools issue – especially serving as a resource for lawmakers who have questions about the effect that bankruptcy on the district and the state as a whole and how a legislative solution would be the best way to address the district’s fiscal challenges. His input has been valuable and appreciated," said David Murray, Press Secretary for Governor Rick Snyder.

Murray says there are ongoing discussions with a number of people about the district’s leadership during a transitional period as the Legislature works on this issue.

Rhodes and Governor Snyder met with a group of teachers and principals on Monday in Detroit.
He will be at another meeting today at 4p.m. at Cass Tech with district employees.

DPS Emergency Manager Darnell Earley has already submitted his resignation - effective at the end of this month.
