The Kresge Foundation announced today that they are committing about $2.2 million for revitalization efforts in the city of Detroit.
The Kresge Foundation Board of Trustees approved the 10 grants at the board's last meeting of the year in Troy on Thursday.
Four of the grants will help riverfront planning, Corktown, southwest Detroit, and Eastern Market. Another four grants will fund organizations to tackle the challenges of "blight, abandonment and neighborhood-level revitalization."
The other two grants will go toward supporting organizations that are working to help revitalize the city: The Detroit Economic Growth Association and Community Development Advocates Detroit.
“These grants are the latest addition to the foundation’s work toward the revitalization of Kresge’s hometown,” Kresge President and CEO Rip Rapson said in a press release. “And the revival of neighborhoods is necessarily a basis for revitalization of the city as a whole.”
Rapson said there will be further grants and announcements in 2016.
