DETROIT (WXYZ) — After more than 40 years in business, legendary Detroit clothing store The Broadway will be closing its doors as Owner Pepper Martin will retire.

Martin and Donny Goldstein opened The Broadway in 1975 to sell high-quality men's and women's apparel, and Martin became the sole owner in 2010.

“After 43 years of serving generations of customers it is time for me to retire. I have enjoyed every moment of owning The Broadway, the good days and the times I couldn’t take a paycheck," Martin said in a release. "The best thing has been working with the people of Detroit. This is not a sad day. To witness the city rise up from the depths it was in, and being in the heart of downtown to witness its rebirth has been exhilarating.”

In August, Bedrock purchased the property at the intersection of Gratiot and Randolph. Martin said when he decided to retire, he reached out to Bedrock to see if they would be interested in purchasing the building.

The Broadway sells high-end and exotic clothes from around the world. They are now holding a "going out of business" liquidation sale as they try to get rid of $1 million in inventory.

Everything will be at least 30 percent off, including suits regularly $650 and $450 marked down to $399 and $199, and dress pants, shirt sets and sweaters buy one, get one free.

It's expected The Broadway will close in early spring 2019 or when they sell off all of the inventory.
