List of metro Detroit cooling centers to help escape the heat

(WXYZ) — Metro Detroit will see a stretch of severely hot weather. To assist people who may not be able to escape the heat, some counties and cities are using public buildings as cooling centers.

Temperatures will go above 90 degrees for several straight days during the week.

This is a working list which will be updated as necessary.

  • Washtenaw County is opening two cooling centers to the public for the week of July 6.

The atrium of the the Community Mental Health building, 555 Towner St. in Ypsilanti and the Learning Resource center, 4135 Washtenaw Ave. in Ann Arbor will open to residents beginning Tuesday, July 7. Bottled water will also be provided and social distancing guidelines will be in place.
