DETROIT (WXYZ) - Wayne County officials announced today that they are filing a lawsuit against the project manager of the failed, half-built jail that's already cost taxpayers $154 million.
The suit, filed against AECOM Services of Michigan, Ghafari Associates and Walbridge-dck Joint Venture, alleges that the companies' "errors, omissions and delays" in the project led to $50 million in cost overruns.
The lawsuit was announced the same day that Wayne County CEO Robert Ficano announced a plan to sell the jail site and four surrounding county properties to billionaire developer Dan Gilbert for $50 million, and move the county's new jail to the site of the shuttered state prison on Mound Road.
The plan received a cool reception from commissioners, however, who said they needed more information on the deal.
