It was historic!  Never before had members of Congress staged an old style sit-in on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.  Never before, that is, until civil rights veteran - now Atlanta, Georgia Congressman - John Lewis urged about 170 of his Democratic colleagues to do so.

What sparked this 25-hour Capitol Hill slumber party?  The minority party wanted action on gun control following the tragic shooting at a gay Orlando nightclub where 49 people were killed and more than 50 others were injured.  Lewis and his supporters wanted a bill to come to the House floor they could vote on.

For hours it was chaos in Washington, D.C.'s hollowed government chambers and a social media frenzy as the protesters streamed their actions on Twitter, Periscope and Facebook "live."  WXYZ Digital Director Seth Myers tells me in this Sunday's broadcast of Spotlight on the News (10:00 am on 7), "I think social media has changed all the rules!"  At least all the "old" rules of political messaging and warfare!
