The Democratic political battle for this year’s presidential race is showing its wear and tear up here on picturesque Mackinac Island.   Education, entrepreneurship and investing in Michigan’s future aren’t the only topics of conversation being discussed at the Detroit Regional Chamber’s annual Mackinac Policy Conference.

Two Detroit area Democrats told me their thoughts about the war of words between former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders.  Both Michigan Senator Gary Peters and Oakland County Congresswoman Brenda believe Clinton will be the eventual Democratic nominee to take on Republican nominee Donald Trump in the General Election.  However, that said, they have differing points of view on when Sanders should abandon his campaign for the White House.  Peters thinks Sanders should stay in through the primary season but Lawrence says the longtime Vermont Independent, now running under the Democratic banner, should get out now!

As this fight evolves, keep one historical fact in mind, Clinton didn’t pull out of her first presidential run against then Senator Barack Obama until June 7th of 2008.  California, here they come!  It looks like the great west coast will have a say in this hard fought political contest between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
