SOUTHFIELD (WXYZ) — The teenager who was behind the wheel of his parent's 2010 Cadillac SRX when it crashed Friday night could be charged with reckless driving causing death, according to Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren.

Six teenage boys were in the vehicle. Two were in the front, three were in the backseat, and one teen was in the hatch area of the vehicle, police said.
"He was 16. He would have been 17 on Sept. 25," said Nakeia Garrett whose son, Jaqai, was one of two teenagers killed in the crash.
Derell Blackmon, 17, was also killed in the crash that happened on northbound Telegraph Road just past Nine Mile Road after the driver lost control and hit a curb, causing the vehicle to go airborne, roll, and crash into a tree.
"Seventeen years I had him in my life," said Derell's father, DeWan Blackmon. "It was the best 17 years of my life. I couldn't ask for a better son than him."

Southfield police have not identified the 17-year-old who was driving, but, according to witnesses, the Cadillac was changing lanes and going over 100 mph.
All six teenagers in the vehicle were students at Oak Park High School.
Southfield police and fire departments arrived within four minutes of the crash.
Terry Harvey, a retired first responder, was first on the scene and quickly rushed to help the teens.
"I heard these screams for help," Harvey said. "The one person said there are two people still in the car."
Police said four of the six teenagers were ejected.
"There were two who were trapped under a tree," said Chief Barren. Emergency workers were able to free those teens and two who were still trapped inside the vehicle.
Madison Mosley's 17-year-old brother was one of the passengers. Alonte Mosley remains hospitalized at Beaumont Royal Oak Hospital where he's been sedated.
"He has a fractured spine and his leg is broken," said Madison, who adds that doctors said her brother is strong and there's no swelling on his brain.
Madison said doctors expect to wake Alonte up on Tuesday.
Police said it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, but the teen driver's blood was drawn for analysis.
"This accident will be treated as any other accident resulting in death," Chief Barren said.
Barren also reminded parents to limit the number of passengers their teenage drivers have in the vehicle with them.
"These are distractions that can be connected to accidents," he said.
