Right now, police continue searching for a driver involved in a deadly crash in Ypsilanti that killed an innocent man sitting in his car.

We're still not releasing the victim's name because the entire family hasn’t been notified yet. We know the victim is a 62-year-old Whitmore lake resident, whose longtime friend Daniel Ralph Gray says would do anything for anyone.

"Me and my Wife, we were shocked we just couldn’t believe it," Gray said. "He was, you know, a good guy all around, (who would) help you out."

The crash happened just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office says two cars were racing down Ecorse Road when they hit a third car, killing the driver.

"I’ve always worried about accident deaths like that in vehicles, especially with him being a bigger guy driving a smaller car," Gray said.

Surveillance video from a nearby business caught what happened after the crash. The video shows smoke and debris. The driver of one of the vehicles then calmly gets out of the car and walks away.

"When we found out the circumstances we considered that was the worst way to go, somebody else causing your death," Gray said.

One person was arrested at the scene. Daniel says there’s no place for street racing off the race track, and that no one should die the way his friend did.

"If you want to race your car you can go to these race tracks on the weekend and submit in as an amateur and race your car. There’s no sense of doing it down on the streets," Gray said.

Police continue searching for the other driver involved in this deadly crash.
