MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Prosecutor Eric Smith calls it the most egregious case he’s ever seen when it comes to someone trying to avoid paying child support.

Two men are now facing criminal charges. In a voicemail obtained exclusively by Action News and provided to us by the prosecutor, you can hear evidence in the case.

A caller threatening a young mother says, “You need to back off my boy, and that’s real talk you know. Anything happens to him and we got a problem. I don’t want no issues.”

Smith tells Action News, “Not only were there verbal and text threats, there was also a severed cow tongue and dead rats placed on her front door.”

The mother began fearing for her safety, after she reported her child’s father, Kenneth May for refusing to pay child support in late 2018.

Smith also points to a recent video taken inside a Secretary of State branch: “Defendant Houston went to the SOS posing as Kenneth May. To get a fraudulent driver’s license in the name of Kenneth May. When fake “Kenneth May” came to our office with a fraudulent license and took the DNA test it came back negative. But, it was not actually Kenneth May, it was his friend Marki Houston.”

The child’s mother and detectives would eventually piece it all together, just prior to charges being filed on Tuesday.

“She comes to our office and we show her pictures of the Kenneth May who came to take the DNA test and she says that’s not Kenneth May,” Smith says.

Both men are looking at as much as five years behind bars each. Police and deputies are currently looking to bring them both into custody.
