FRENCHTOWN TWP. (WXYZ) — A man has been arrested by Michigan State Police after allegedly shooting a woman in the face during a domestic incident in Frenchtown Township Wednesday evening.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Joy Dawn Boswell.

The shooting happened just before 10:30 p.m. at the Shady Creek RV and Park Resort, also known as Camp Lord Willing. It's located at 1600 Stumpmier Road.

Gunshots in the area prompted calls to the police. People in the area reported seeing a man shoot a woman in the face while she sat in a vehicle, then he fled on foot.

When MSP arrived, the woman was found shot inside a vehicle. Officers then began a search for the suspect with the help of the K9 team and Emergency Support Team.

It was a deputy from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office that spotted the suspect walking on the side of Steiner Road covered in blood. He was taken into police custody at the Monroe County Jail.

The victim was taken to Oakwood Southshore Hospital where she died.
