Man assaults Detroit gas station clerk after being asked to wear mask

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police are looking for a man who allegedly assaulted a gas station clerk after being asked to wear a face covering inside the business in order to be serviced.

The mask-related assault happened Wednesday, July 15 just before 11 a.m. in the 2000 block of E. Jefferson, which is a Project Green Light location.

The suspect wast told by the clerk that he was required to wear a face mask, according to the state mandate, in order to be serviced. The suspect became irate and began making threats, police say. He then pushed in the separating security window onto the clerk before fleeing the location on foot.
