Robert Ruffer was cutting up scrap wood outside his barn in Fairhaven when his sleeve got caught in the saw. He nearly cut his hand off.

"My hand got cut really bad. I try not to say the word amputate anymore," says Robert.

But that's what almost happened for Robert. Luckily, doctors at the University of Michigan hospital were able to stitch and staple him up.

"They gave me a second chance. They gave me an opportunity to have a second chance," says Robert.

And his 21-year-old son helped too. He was at home registering for a math class when he helped his dad tie up his arm to stop the bleeding. Robert's son also called an ambulance.

"Thank you. I know I’ve said it so many times but I can’t thank you enough. Overwhelming is a small word to describe how overwhelming it was,” adds Robert.
