(WXYZ) — A San Francisco McDonald's was forced to temporarily shut down Sunday after a man brought a dead raccoon dripping blood inside the restaurant.

Officials say an elderly man brought the dead animal into the Mickey D's and placed it on the table. Customers say there was a trail of blood on the floor.

According to SFGate, 54-year-old Chris Brooks was picking up a breakfast sandwich when he had to do a double take.

"The guy came in screaming, 'Help, help, help!'" said Brooks. "He came to the counter, and I thought it was a dog at first. The employees told him to leave and he went and sat down with it. "

Brooks began recording a Facebook Live of the strange incident.

San Francisco Police responded to the scene around 7 a.m. and conducted an evaluation of the elderly man's mental health.

"Based on our information, he didn't meet the criteria (for psychiatric detention)," said Officer Adam Lobsinger. "We always offer services. The city has a number of services. When we do a mental health detention, that's a little more in-depth. That means you're a threat to yourself or to others."

McDonald's closed down the location for five hours to clean and disinfect the place. According to SFGate, the Department of Public Health inspected the restaurant Thursday and approved it for full operations.

Animal control removed the raccoon from the property.
