FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Oakland County prosecutors have charged a man involved in a reported sexual assault in Farmington Hills.
Jesse Newton, 31, is facing charges of criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to do great bodily harm by strangulation, home invasion, and unauthorized driving away of an automobile, according to prosecutors.
Newton was arraigned at the 47th District Court on Dec. 20, 2019 and ordered a $500,000 cash/surety bond.
Police say in the Middlebelt Road south of 10 Mile Road area in Farmington Hills, a 28-year-old woman said she was sexually assaulted around midnight on Dec. 18. She told police she was assaulted by her male friend, who afterwards became upset and began cutting himself with a knife and fled the residence.
The victim was treated by paramedics and was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
Newton was reported in the area of Canfield Avenue located east of Middlebelt between Nine and Ten Mile Roads. Police say it was reported that Newton allegedly knocked on the front door of a residence, and when the resident answered the door, Newton reportedly entered the home, took a knife from the house and punched the homeowner when he attempted to stop him from leaving.
He is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-examination conference on Jan. 3, 2020. A preliminary exam is set for Jan. 10, 2020.
