Man charged in killing of Detroit Officer McClain arraigned in court

DETROIT (WXYZ) — The man charged in the murder of Detroit police officer Rasheen McClain was in court Thursday.

This is the first time he will stand before a judge on these new charges against him. The hearing is expected to start at 11 a.m. this morning. Right now JuJuan Parks faces 16 criminal charges.

Sources close to the investigation tell 7 Action News Parks admitted to the shootingthat killed Officer Rasheen McClain and injured his partner.

One of the 16 counts against Parks includes first degree premeditated murder.

Sources also tell 7 Action News Parks is also being investigated for other acts of gun violence in the days and weeks leading up to the death of Officer McClain, including the deaths of Nathaniel Loyd and Christian Calhoun.

Both men were friends with Parks.

Sources say it is alleged Parks wanted revenge after a woman he had been dating told him the men had mistreated her. The woman reportedly lied.

"Whoever did it, I just hope that they get the maximum punishment," said Candace Loyd, sister of Nathaniel Loyd. "I just feel like they should just really sit for the rest of their life and think about what they did and these families that they hurt."

Officer McClain's funeralwill be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit on 23500 W. Seven Mile Road.
