Man charged in 2018 robbery, fatal beating of man in Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) — A Detroit man has been charged in the November 2018 fatal beating of a 44-year-old man on the city's east side.

Andre Lamont Cockerham Jr., 24, of Detroit, is charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery and unlawful driving away of an automobile in the fatal beating of Andre Buford, Sr., also of Detroit.

The incident happened Nov. 3, 2018 around 2 p.m. in the 16900 block of Carlisle St.

When officers arrived in the area, they found Buford's lifeless body inside a residence. When medics arrived they pronounced the victim dead.

It is alleged that Cockerham beat and robbed Buford. No further details were immediately available regarding their interaction, but according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, "further facts and evidence" will be presented during a preliminary exmination scheduled for July 10.
