A 52-year-old man has died after an off-road vehicle carrying four people fell through a hole in ice on a lake in western Michigan.
State police say the hole was cut in the ice earlier Saturday for a polar plunge fundraiser at Crystal Lake in Montcalm County. The ORV broke through a temporary fence around 8 p.m.
The victim was identified as Lee Avery. A 25-year-old woman was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids.
The lake, about 55 miles northeast of Grand Rapids, was the site of an annual all-day winter festival.
