A Lincoln Park man is charged with murder in connection to a hit-and-run that killed a Detroit police officer.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Steven Guzina, 54, with second degree murder and operating while intoxicated causing death. He's also facing a number of other charges including reckless driving.

Guzina was arraigned on those charges Monday afternoon in court. He was remanded to the Wayne County Jail.

Police say Detroit Police Officer Myron Jarrett, 40, was helping in an investigation on October 28 when he was struck and killed by Gunzina. The accident happened around 10:30 p.m.

Gunzina reportedly fled the scene and was arrested a short time later by police.

"The death of Officer Jarrett is yet another very tragic result of a person allegedly driving under the influence of intoxicants taking ‎a life," stated Worthy in a press release. "There have been public service announcements and activism about this for decades. There are probably people driving under the influence at this very moment. Who knows when this will stop?"
